Deadvlei, Namibia. This is basically the same set up as for my award-winning Resurrection shot. As with many of my night shots from here, I had selected this composition for my time lapse movie Namibian Nights. As the weather forecast predicted fog, I decided to backlight the tree to create these shadow beams.
What I like about this shot is that it is totally unique - there is no other shot from this place with backlight, fog and stars (yet). The following morning I created Resurrection from more or less the same position, but further backwards with a longer lens to better show the trees in the background.
